We woke up early on our last day in Athens, in order to see all the city had to offer-we did not get much done the day before between sleeping in, photos, and a long lunch with new friends.
TRAVEL TIP: Be prepared to allow at least two hours for both lunch and dinner when in Europe. In Europe, each meal is a celebrated time with family and close friends, with each course spaced out to allow a great amount of communication. Yes, it was not the fast paced lifestyle we are used to in America, but, I loved the way Europeans did meal times-it was a time to really focus in on the ones you love. Also, I noticed that hardly anyone was on their phones during meal times, which was such a blessing.
Our Athens, Greece Highlights:
-Wondering around the side streets near the Acropolis, looking at cute, quaint European homes and cafes. There were also a ton of cats nearby, which made me feel like I was in heaven (lol); let’s just say, if you love cats, you need to make a trip to Greece, because they are everywhere!
-The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens. It was amazing to go there, because, it contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The Parthenon was dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. We also headed to the Acropolis Museum afterwards.
-Eating at God’s Restaurant and Piazza Duomo. If you love classic Greek dishes, such a souvlaki, these restaurants are a must! Athens, Greece has a great food scene; so, if you taste buds influence your travel, Athens is definitely a must.
