Six months ago my husband and I officially became a family. It was the best decision of my life; and I fully believe that everyday! I am not writing this blog post to be sappy; however, I hope to spark an idea in someone’s mind about what marriage truly is.
Lesson number one: Men are from Mars! {the real list is below}
1. GRACE-everyone needs it. Lately I have realized how easy it is to get irritated or annoyed at the smallest things my husband, Wilson, does or forgets to do. Sleep deprivation, stress, and responsibility add to my pickiness. Just remember, that extra grace {the kind our Savior has given us} might be needed and lower our expectations-even when you are on vacation and he does not ask for directions.
2. The SINGLE most important RELATIONSHIP is your MARRIAGE-not your friends, netflix account, social media, or your phone.
3. A GOOD’OLE GOAL SESSION-if you know me well, you will probably know that I am a huge goal setter; monthly goals, weekly goals, daily goals, you name it. Just like I have goals for my business in 2017, I have goals for my marriage. Evaluating your relationship with your spouse helps you stay on track. Sometimes life calls for a good heart-to-heart conversation between you and your spouse about where you are-in your marriage, financially, spiritually, etc. Who says you can’t have goals for your marriage?
4. Just Laugh-as we all know, sometimes life gets crazy. In the darkest of moments when we are lonely, scared, or just plain exhausted, it sometimes helps just to laugh.
5. Develop Mutual Interests-honestly, this has been the hardest for Wilson and I to tackle. Where I am the go-getter, he is the napper; where I like elevator music, he likes his car stereo; where I like to exercise, he well does not…however, there are still plenty of activities that we enjoy together. A love of foreign travel has been a big thing for us. There is no need to have total overlap, as headphones can produce harmony, just make sure you are not tuning out each other.
6. Say I LOVE YOU-in the busyness of life, these three words are often left unsaid. You know, the three words that every dating-age girl is longing to hear. Communication is everything in a marriage, so why not communicate how you feel about each other?
